If you think about it, some Christians talk about their relationship with the Lord as though they are pretzels. They say they "follow Him," but then when it comes to intense prayer, they know they are in Him, and when it comes to living the life -- if they really are doing that -- they know that He lives in them.

So, how do we untwist ourselves? How can we both be entirely identified with the Creator Redeemer and still picture Him out there in front leading, but insisting that we exercise our own walking muscules to "follow Him?"

Truth be known, we humans do not have the strength to follow the Lord. We can try, we can grunt, we can sweat our frail condition, but we cannot keep up. How would any sane human being think in the first place that he could "follow" the God of the Universe? It is simply impossible.

The impossible, however, is just what the Lord came to earth to perform. The GOOD news is good NEWS. You need to be so identified with our loving Lord that you relate to Him exactly the way you relate to your physical environment. You live in air, right? But that's not good enough, is it? You have to let the air get inside you. Every person is born with the possibility of having a vital relationship with the Lord. However, until you allow the Lord to fill you, you are not alive spiritually. Take a deep breath. Luther said prayer is the breath of the believer. Paul wrote we should pray without ceasing. You can live a prayer-dynamic life with the Lord if you allow Him to take full control: live in Him, and let Him live in you.

Then the God of the Universe will walk you through life with His power. No following needed.
