Timothy had been given GOOD NEWS. The good news is that Jesus Christ lived a perfect life, that He came to earth as God in the flesh and gave up his Godly powers to become a genuine man, and then He placed His perfection on the altar of sacrifice to make the Old Testament sacrifices no longer necessary. He freed us from sin and guilt and from the need to pay an impossible debt. Paul was telling Timothy that this simple message of good news makes all other messages just babbling. He was not telling Timothy to make believe he was no longer living in this world. That's not what Paul meant by warning against science-so-called. Paul was not a scientist, but he certainly honored genuine science. His powers of reason were the finest of his day. Paul warned Timothy, and he warns us today, against arguing with people who can only be persuaded by a change of heart. A testimony about what God has done for you is far more powerful than a polemic. Our faith and the powerful message of the Good News of the Gospel will stand up to the scientific method and win out every time. But remember -- he who is persuaded against his will is of the same position still. Don't argue and flail about. Get straight to the point. You cannot expect your friends who do not have the Lord Jesus Christ living within them to be able to think straight. Don't scorn them for their faulty reasoning. Introduce them to the Lord. -- Richard Palmquist Send email to frontoffice@truthradio.com with questions or comments about this subject. |
